Wine bar and bistro 58 Degrees & Holding Co. is at 1217 18th St. in midtown.

The wine bar and bistro 58 Degrees & Holding Co. has been sold to members of a local law firm.

On July 1, the business was taken over by some partners and employees of midtown law firm Gavrilov & Brooks Attorneys at Law, said Hayk Galachyan, president of 58 Degrees and also head of operations at the law firm.

The law firm is at 23rd Street and Capitol Avenue, and the restaurant is at 1217 18th St. in midtown, and people at the firm are familiar with the restaurant from walking to it for happy hour.

Galachyan did not disclose the price of the transaction.

Opened in 2006, 58 Degrees is split into three distinct operations. It has a bistro operation that serves food and libations, a retail wine shop and a wine storage vault for customers to keep wine in lockers at 58 degrees — the optimum temperature to store wine.  “They all complement each other,” Galachyan said.

The new owners just got the place, and they don’t have immediate plans to change things visible to customers, he said.  “It is business as usual. We are improving some aspects of the operation,” Galachyan said.  Over time, they would like to expand the private events side of the business. The restaurant has a private, 18-seat dining area.
