Brad is a partner at Gavrilov & Brooks with more than 20 years of experience in complex business litigation.
His commercial litigation practice is primarily focused on real estate-related matters and contract disputes, including landlord-tenant and commercial leasing actions, construction law, lender claims, partnership disputes, and short-term rental and zoning/lot-line disputes. He is also well-versed in partition actions, class actions, and Proposition 65 defense, as well as unlawful detainer actions and insurance defense matters. He has participated and prevailed in numerous jury and bench trials and successfully guided countless clients through arbitration, mediation, and informal settlement negotiations. He practices in both State and Federal Court and has argued on multiple occasions before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Brad’s clients range from institutional banks and private equity lenders to start-ups and celebrities. He represents a wide range of emerging and established businesses, law firms, legal and medical professionals, homeowners’ associations, landlords, and affluent individuals. A significant portion of his practice focuses on assisting clients with minimizing risk and limiting potential exposure. When it is not possible to avoid legal action, Brad works closely with his clients to create and implement custom-tailored litigation strategies and solutions.
Before joining Gavrilov & Brooks in 2020, Brad was a partner in two boutique litigation firms in Los Angeles, and prior to that, an associate at one of California’s preeminent real estate “Big Firms.” His recent community service includes serving on the Board of Directors for the La Brea Hancock Homeowners’ Association and as a representative to the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Counsel.
- In December 2024 Mr. Jewett negotiated the settlement of an estimated $80,000,000 real estate portfolio between the three highly contentious heirs to the estate.
- In December 2024 Mr. Jewett successfully negotiated an $850,000 settlement in favor of a client relating to unlawful conduct by a trustee who breached his fiduciary duties relating to a family trust.
- In June 2022 Mr. Jewett prevailed at trial on all of his client’s claims regarding an unlawful lot-line encroachment and retaining wall, and successfully defended numerous cross-claims against his client for nuisance, trespass and emotional distress. Along the way Mr. Jewett obtained multiple sanctions awards against the defendants and then a six-figure award at trial, all of which was paid, with substantial interest, when the defendants sold their home.
- In September 2024 Mr. Jewett successfully defended an appeal attempting to unlawfully vacate a money settlement under the false pretext that a below-market sale of real property satisfied a money judgment.
- In February 2025 Mr. Jewett obtained a dismissal of a frivolous lawsuit, with prejudice, by way of a Code of Civil Procedure Section 128.7 Motion for Sanctions. Counsel for the plaintiff was sanctioned thousands of dollars for improper and unlawful conduct.
- In May 2025 Mr. Jewett’s motion for evidentiary sanctions was granted resulting in an order that the plaintiff in the action is barred from presenting any oral or documentary evidence whatsoever at trial.
